ZZYZX on 18 Steps

The cover of Trey's new album was designed by Phish.net vet, Jambands writer, and Mockingbird statistician David "ZZYZX" Steinberg (a.k.a. ""The Timer"). It involves a complicated equation to connect Bar 17 (the album title) with "18 Steps" (a track title), and employs Galois Theory, Set Theory, Combinatorics, and basic trigonometry and calculus, ultimately (if simplified) expressing the equation "17 + 1 = 18".
